Mapping of marine litter on the seafloor using WASSP S3 multibeam echo sounder and Chasing M2 ROV

Marine litter is a growing threat to the marine environment. Mapping of becoming increasingly important detect its potential hotspots and prevent their spread. In this paper, applicability multibeam echo sounder (MBES) WASSP S3 remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) Chasing M2 was tested in detection mapping on seafloor within wider area St. Ante Channel (Šibenik, Croatia). Also, precision assessment at different cruising speeds. Results have shown that can be used effectively for initial debris shallow waters. However, if navigation positioning system auxiliary measurement scales are not used, ROV has limited capabilities deriving morphometric parameters seafloor. This determined by comparing 3D model tire which derived using video photogrammetry captured with produced hand-held scanner. Furthermore, results suitable identifying smaller than 1 m depths up 10 m. The MBES minimum 100 * cm height around 40 pointed need caution when choosing an adequate sensor map addition, interval measurements centimeter range (<10 cm) obtained helped establish guidelines integrated use MBES, ROV, UAV
